Style Guide: How to Wear Checkered Prints for The Summer!

As a plus sized woman, I know we’re told that we should avoid certain prints and patterns and other bs – but I’m here to tell you to rock that checkered print sis because look – I LOOK DAMN GOOD!
I will admit – I didn’t know if I was going to like this set from Target or not. When I originally saw it, I thought it was a weak play on the Florida bermuda set trend, it really didn’t look appealing on Target’s website (sorry). But when I saw someone on Instagram wear it with some dope thigh high white cowboy boots – I was sold!

The set itself is comfortable as hell – but if you’re in between “regular” sizing and “plus” sizing, go up in size. I originally got an XXL and quickly realized the shirt didn’t hit on my body where it needed to hit, and the shorts were too tight on my thighs. I wanted this to be a relaxed look I could dress up.
Once I got the correct size, it was a go! The shirt can be worn a few different ways – tucked in, manipulated to be a crop top, off the shoulder, or like how I did, a few buttons unbuttoned to flow in the wind. The shorts are baggy enough for a comfy look, but short enough to show off the skin you have.
I love the print because it actually helps camouflage and slim you down, and this very much gives a retro flare that’s perfect for the summer!

I decided I wanted to be really loud with this fit, while also making my own street styled look – so I went with a metallic silver bootie from Amazon and my bright orange faux fur bag from Dolls Kill. I also wanted to make sure I brought out the green from the set, so I paired it with a green Bass Pro hat (do yall know someone actually thought I worked at Bass Pro in this fit lol).
